Message From the CEO

This foundation was established by Royal Decree of our Late Father, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud as a platform for his charitable humanitarian activities in Saudi Arabia and abroad during his lifetime, and a symbol to preserve the legacy of his values and principles after his death, in order to fulfill the vision behind his inspirational quote: “Man can either cause the destruction of the whole planet, or make it an oasis of peace and tranquility”.

Today, my brothers and I in the Board of Trustees faithfully follow in the footsteps of the Late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz. We pursue his path and propagate his noble principles and values by developing and launching humanitarian initiatives and programs that revolve around seven focal areas – education, economic development, healthcare, science and technology, social development, dialogue, security and peace. Our activities’ focus on these areas serves the Foundation’s vision: improving people’s lives in targeted communities through humanitarian programs based on sustainable development and social, cultural, intellectual, and knowledge-based constituents that cultivate peaceful human coexistence.

We believe that helping people should not be restricted to temporary response to their urgent needs but should also encompass supporting them to exit the poverty cycle. We also believe that the world should come to know the reasons that cause groups of people, in various regions of the globe, to suffer from famine, poverty, or threats to personal safety, which prevents them from living with dignity. Therefore, we aim to carry on King Abdullah’s strategy of supporting the containment of unrest and tensions that lead to many of the disasters afflicting humanity, such as wars, armed conflicts, and corruption, or clash of civilizations, religions, sects, and ideologies. It’s a strategy we pursue by fostering the culture of coexistence, peace, tolerance and dialogue, and by bridging the gap between conflicting viewpoints.

We also believe that investing in education, knowledge, and capabilities and skills development is vital to achieving humanitarian goals, and that supporting studies and research can help render the methods and programs of humanitarian aid and grants more effective and sustainable.

We maintain our deep-rooted conviction that all good-hearted people around the world who care about humanitarianism and about spreading its principles should coordinate their efforts – whether governments, international organizations, nonprofits, or individuals – to reduce human suffering and curb its expansion, and to achieve more of the goals that all those concerned with human suffering undoubtedly share. Such coordination succeeds by actualizing the concept of partnership among all active parties in the field.

Finally, we, the Board of Trustees of King Abdullah Foundation, all pledge to pursue the path paved by our father, to adhere to his principles, and propagate the values he called for and advocated throughout his life.

Turki bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud
