King Abdullah Early Years and Life
Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman bin Faisal bin Turki Al Saud was born in 1343 H / 1924 G and died on Rabi’ al-thani 3rd, 1436 H / January 23rd, 2015 G. His father is King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, the unifier and founder of the third Saudi Arabian State. His maternal uncles were tribal leaders of Shammar tribes. His maternal grandfather is Al Assi bin Kolayb bin Hamdan bin Shoraim, a brilliant Arab knight and one of Abdah leaders from Shammar tribes, and so was his maternal uncle Motni bin Al Assi bin Shoraim.
King Abdullah was raised by his father King Abdulaziz Al Saud. Growing up by his father’s side, he gained a firsthand view into the practice of governance, politics, administration and leadership. King Abdullah was educated by a set of select teachers and scholars and acquired a broad understanding – through extensive reading – of various fields of knowledge, culture and civilization.
King Abdullah Humanitarian Character
Whenever King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is mentioned, so is the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s great global impact during his reign, an impact that owes much to his character’s strength, presence and influence. This made him one of the most influential figures on a global level, according to many of the world’s authenticated surveys. Forbes magazine kept classifying him among The World’s Most Powerful People for six consecutive years from 2009 to 2014 (less than two months before his death). Moreover, in August 2010, he was included in Newsweek magazine’s list of World’s Most Admired Men Top 10.
At the level of the Islamic world, the Arab countries and the Middle East, King Abdullah was the leading, most influential figure throughout his reign. He topped the list of most influential figures in the Muslim world issued by The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre in Jordan, in recognition of his efforts in serving Moslems and their issues; his rapport with Islamic communities; and his humanitarian work.
King Abdullah Achievements
King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has a wonderful record full of achievements on the local, regional and international levels. At the local level, Saudi Arabia witnessed during his reign major accelerated development in various fields. He supported the fields of education, health, housing, roads, environment, water, electricity, e-government, telecommunications, public services and mega economic development projects. In terms of foreign policy, the Kingdom’s regional and international role gained strength, supported by the high international regard King Abdullah garnered during his life. That regard in turn contributed to the success of his peacemaking efforts in many countries torn by internal strife; on the global level, it led to bringing sects and religions closer and consolidating dialogue between them.
